Usernames#
Are UNIX usernames a thing of the past? – Surely not!.
Should federated users know their UNIX username at each and every computer to which they login – SUUURELY NOT!!!.
Why?
- The UNIX username is often site-policy, i.e. the computer centre, (admin, infrastructure) running the ssh-daemon often has a clear idea or requirement for UNIX usernames. Sometimes they are issued centrally for a whole bunch of systems. An other computer centre, (admin, infrastructure) will have different and incompatible requirements.
- Users are busy enough remembering the hostnames. If we can keep them from also memorising their usernames, this add to their general level of happiness.
